Sembcorp Marine to provide offshore platforms for Al Shaheen and Tyra fields

Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms has bagged a couple of offshore platform contracts worth more than S$550 million ($406.75 million) for the Al Shaheen field offshore Qatar and the Tyra field in the Danish North Sea.

The company has bagged the contract for the Al Shaheen oil field from North Oil Company (NOC) for the fabrication of two wellhead platforms, which will be bridge-linked to the existing facilities of the offshore Qatari field.

Sembcorp Marine won the contract under NOC’s Gallaf Batch 2 Project. The scope of the contract covers engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning and offshore brownfield integration of the platforms, which will begin production at the Al Shaheen field by December 2021.

The Gallaf Project is a multi-phase development for sustaining the production capacity of the Al Shaheen field at a plateau of 300,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd).

Located 80km north of Ras Laffan, the Al Shaheen oil field is the largest oil field in Qatar, which is said to account for 45% of the oil production in the country.

The other award, which is in the North Sea, will see Sembcorp Marine as a subcontractor for the fabrication of certain platforms and bridges for Total E&P Danmark in the Tyra Redevelopment Project.

The Tyra redevelopment platforms, which will be ready in Q1 2021, in part, will involve the replacement of aging facilities and will maintain daily outputs of 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) at the Tyra gas condensate field in the next 25 years.

Upon its redevelopment, the Tyra gas condensate field is expected to yield enough gas to power 1.5 million Danish homes.

Samuel Wong – Sembcorp Marine Head of Offshore Platforms said: “Sembcorp Marine’s successful bids in the Gallaf Batch 2 and Tyra projects reinforce our engineering expertise in catering to different geographies and operating environments.

“Our latest contracts reflect the confidence that global players like NOC and Total have in our track record. We are excited to partner with them and look forward to expanding our footprint at the Al Shaheen and Tyra fields.”
