Commenting on the crane services contract at the Idd El-Shargi North Dome field, Stewart Mitchell – CEO of Sparrows Group said: “We have previously supported the crane maintenance programme for the three cranes on the installation now owned by Qatar Petroleum. These are critical pieces of equipment for operations on any asset and our experience will enable us to ensure the reliability and safety of the cranes.

“Being awarded this work with the new operator is testament to the excellent standards the team has delivered. We’re looking forward to working with Qatar Petroleum and building our relationship with them; being engaged with another operator in the Middle East supports our long-term strategy for growth in the region.”

Earlier this week, Qatar Petroleum announced that it has taken over the management and operatorship of the Idd El-Shargi North Dome and the Idd El-Shargi South Dome offshore oil fields after the expiry of the development and production sharing agreements with Occidental Petroleum of Qatar for both of them on 6 October 2019.

The Qatari national oil company previously said that it will be taking over the operatorship of the Idd El-Shargi North Dome field after its associated development and production sharing agreement expired and that it will retain all the employees of Occidental Petroleum of Qatar. In line with the announcement, Qatar Petroleum reached an agreement with the Occidental Petroleum subsidiary under which the latter will also hand over the Idd El-Shargi South Dome to it along with the Idd El-Shargi North Dome field.
