Assiut oil refinery in Egypt : TechnipFMC set to begin EPC work on new hydrocracking complex

TechnipFMC has completed the remaining conditions needed to begin work on the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the construction of a new hydrocracking complex for the Assiut oil refinery in Egypt.

The more than $1 billion contract was awarded by Assiut National Oil Processing Company (ANOPC).

Under the contract, TechnipFMC will provide EPC for new process units that include a vacuum distillation unit, a delayed coker unit, a diesel hydrocracking unit, and a distillate hydrotreating unit.

The Assiut oil refinery contract also covers a hydrogen production facility unit to be built using TechnipFMC’s steam reforming technology. Besides, the EPC project includes other process units, interconnecting, offsites, and utilities.

TechnipFMC stated: “The project supports the Egyptian Government’s Energy Transition strategy and will reinforce the economic growth of rural areas while minimizing environmental emissions as well as reducing the government export bill.”

The expanded Assiut oil refinery complex will transform lower-value petroleum products from a nearby refinery of Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC) into nearly 2.8 million tons per year of cleaner products, which include Euro V diesel.
